Iguality is a nonprofit organization based in Barcelona, Spain, founded in 2022. Its mission is to promote mental health, social inclusion, and community well-being, with a focus on marginalized groups.[1][2] The organization provides free psychological support and organizes community-building activities.[1]
History
Iguality was established in 2022 with the aim of making mental health care more accessible to marginalized populations.[1] The organization partners with local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to provide free psychological attention to underserved communities. Therapy is delivered by professional volunteers.[1]
Iguality works with a wide range of individuals and communities facing marginalisation and precarity, including people with a refugee background, members of LGBTIQ+ communities, individuals with mental or physical disabilities, those experiencing economic hardship, and those facing other forms of injustice.[2]
Activities
Mental Health Program
The core activity of Iguality is its Mental Health Program, which offers free individual counselling to people in need of psychosocial support.[2] Counselling is provided either by social workers, offering practical support, or by professional therapists delivering psychological assistance.[2]
Sports and Community Integration
The organization runs weekly sports activities such as football matches and races, designed to foster connections among people from diverse backgrounds, promote physical and mental well-being, and create safe spaces for socialization, mutual support, and community building.[3]
Cultural and Awareness Projects
Iguality develops cultural projects to raise awareness of mental health issues. One example is I Feel the World, a documentary portraying the lives of eight men and adolescents in Egypt, exploring emotional vulnerability, cultural stigma, and societal expectations.[4] The film was co-created with mental health photographer Anna Afanasjeva, in collaboration with SACER and IOM Egypt, and combines intimate interviews with unfiltered imagery to highlight universal mental health challenges.[4]
Technology and Innovation
In November 2024, Iguality participated in the Web Summit, presenting its approach to using technology and AI to expand mental health care access.[5]
