Ikenna Dieke is a Nigerian American professor of comparative black literature. He is a member of Modern Language Association of America and a former Head of department of English & Literary Studies Department of University of Nigeria Nsukka.

Education

Ikenna  obtained his bachelor's degree  from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He moved to the Southern Illinois University, USA where he obtained his Master's and  PhD in English

Career

Ikenna started his career in 1980 as a graduate assistant of English at Southern Illinois University in USA. In 1983, he was employed as an assistant professor of English at Auburn University, Alabama. In 1985, he left for Jackson State University and in 1987, he moved to Claflin University, Orangeburg South Carolina.  In 1990 he moved to Hampton University, Hampton where he became an associate professor.  In 1994, he moved to University of Arizona where he eventually became a professor of English and African studies in 2005. In 2011, he returned to University of Nigeria Nsukka where he is currently a professor of English and Literary studies.

Administrative appointments

In 1987, he was appointed as the coordinator of Alternative Great Books Program at Claflin University. The chair of English Department of Allen University, Columbia, South Carolina in 1989. An Interim Chair of Claflin University's English Department in 1988 and he became the director of Director of Hampton University Writing Centre in 1990. He became the associate director of Africana Studies Department at the University of Arizona in 1996. In 2012, he was made the acting HOD of English department University of Nigeria Nsukka and he was confirmed in 2016.

He is a member of Christopher Okigbo Foundation, English Scholars Association of Nigeria (ESAN), The Literary Society of Nigeria (LSN), Poets in Nigeria (PIN),  Africa World Literature Association, Modern Language Association (MLA___USA), National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE___USA), College Language Association (CLA___USA), Southern Conference on African American Studies, (SCAASI__USA) and  National Association of Latin American Studies (NALAS___USA)
