Early years and education

Ochiagha was born in Spain to a Spanish mother and a Nigerian father. She moved to Nigeria at the age of seven, and lived there for nine years before returning to Spain. She attributes her movement between worlds, Spain and Nigeria, as significant in shaping her "experience of literature — first as a precocious reader and later as a teacher and scholar."[3]

In Spain, she completed her B.A., M.A., and PhD at the Complutense University of Madrid, where she focused on global anglophone literature.

Career

Her career in the United Kingdom began with the award of a British Academy Newton International Fellowship, which she took up at the University of Sussex.[4] She has since taught at a number of universities in the UK,including King's College London and the University of Oxford. She is currently serving on the Academic Committee of Edinburgh University Press, and was recently on the advisory board of The Chinua Achebe Symposium that held at Princeton University.[5]
