Biography

Ilan was born in Haifa and attended high school in the city. His father worked as a mechanic at the power plant for the electric company and was an amateur chess player. His mother, who passed away from cancer when he was in twelfth grade, worked as a nurse.[citation needed]

Following his high school education, Lukatch served in the Northern Command of the Israel Defense Forces. After completing his military service, he pursued a bachelor's degree in psychology.[citation needed]

Music

Lukatch plays bass guitar and double bass. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, he was active in the music scene. In 1988, he co-founded the band "The Stamp Service Choir" with guitarist Ofir Lockey and drummer Assaf Maroz, who later joined the bands Avtipos and Eifo HaYeled.[2]

Journalism

Lukatch began proofreading for Ha'ir, later becoming a linguistic editor and then an editor. He then joined the Mirror Group, owned by British press magnate Robert Maxwell, which operated in Israel and had purchased Maariv, a newspaper based in Tel Aviv. However, Lukatch soon resigned and joined Haaretz, where he served as deputy editor. There, he worked at the daily desk, and eventually became the editor of their "Gallery".[3][4]

Seeking more involvement in current affairs, Lukatch transitioned to the night desk at Haaretz, and in 1995, Lukatch joined Israeli Channel 2. He started as a sub-editor for the main news program and later became the editor of the program "Seder Olami" (World Order). He was subsequently appointed as a culture reporter, and in 2005, he became the editor of the program "Olpan Shishi" (Friday studio).[citation needed]

Since 2007, he has worked with Israeli Channel 12.[citation needed]
