Ilanga Kella (Sinhala ඊළග කෑල්ල) [1][2][3] is a 2016 novel written by Bharatha Prabhashana Thennakoon.
The novel goes on to discuss the socio-economic, political and cultural experiences of a young woman who went abroad after her marriage, returned to the motherland as a result of a failed marriage, got a teaching job and went to work in a difficult school in the Matale district. The novel, which discusses the living conditions of the people of the frontier states, their activism in the face of their fundamental problems, as well as their role in the face of rights and duties, opens up the tragic life experiences of those regions in various contexts. The book presents a real-world experience of the extent and scope of attention of rulers, including politicians, in the face of popular conflict — initiating a dialogue on the global tragedy of war, drought, the human-elephant conflict, and foreign employment. Also, the novel Ilanga Kella (ඊළග කෑල්ල) deals with the barriers and challenges faced by society, both men and women, who come to these places from outside to rebuild systems. The book is basically about a heartbreaking love story of a young woman who rises up as a courageous daughter in the face of impending challenges, sacrifices her unblemished love for a brotherly love and puts it on the altar. A book launching ceremony was held at the Mahaweli Centre in Colombo on 6 September 2016, and it became a controversial event when an argument began between two of the guests.
