Iman Foundation
The Iman Foundation is a London-based non-partisan and not-for-profit organization, which promotes dialogue to strengthen international understanding and co-existence through the exchange of ideas, people, culture and religion.[1]
The Iman Foundation has worked in countries including Lebanon, Egypt, Germany, the United Kingdom, China, and Spain to facilitate cross-cultural and inter-religious dialogue, promote pluralism, and counter extremism and violence.[2][3][4][5][6]
Members and supporters of the Iman Foundation have hosted, co-hosted and participated in numerous conferences, fact-finding missions, high-level religious and political talks, and academic, educational and cultural programs around the world, including:
- religious and political discussions with leaders such as Pope Shenouda III,[7] Ali Gomaa,[8] Amine Gemayel,[9] Walid Jumblatt,[10] Guy Harpigny,[11] and Amr Moussa;[12]
- a delegation to Egypt headed by Mohammad Al Hajj Hassan, Steve Baker and Syed Kamal, with the aim of promoting pluralism and the principles of free society;[13]
- annual conferences on the development, progress, impact, and future of the field of cultural diplomacy;[14][15][16]
- educational programs focused on intercultural and interfaith dialogue;[17]
- conferences on Islamism as a global threat.[18][19]
The Foundation has also been involved in helping to tackle religious conflict in Lebanon. A notable achievement has been its facilitation of a rapprochement between Alawite and Sunni Muslim communities in North Lebanon.[20]
The founder and chairman of the Iman Foundation is Ribal Al-Assad, a Syrian campaigner for tolerance and peaceful dialogue.[21] Assad has written and spoken widely on topics related to inter-faith relations, cultural diplomacy and religious and political extremism.[22][23][24][25][26]
