Independence Academy of Indiana is a private, nonprofit school in Indianapolis, Indiana[1][2]. It caters specifically to the needs of students with High-Functioning Autism and Asperger Syndrome.

History[edit]

Founded in 2008 by Susan Le Vay and Ruth Padgett, the school was originally located south of Butler University.[3] Starting with an inaugural class of 18 students, the school grew slowly, relocating to the upper floors of First Meridian Heights Presbyterian Church, where as of 2018, it still resides.

Academic Information[edit]

The school was first accredited by the State of Indiana for the 2012 school year. As such, the school participates in ISTEP testing, as required by the State of Indiana. The school has an average class size of 7 students, and serves student in grades 5-12[4], and therefore between the ages of 10-18. There are 36 students at the school[2], and the cost of attending is $14,200.[1]
