Independent Award In Journalism is one of the main fields of giving Independence Day Award.[1] This award is given for unique contribution in journalism of Bangladesh and it is the highest non-governmental award of this country.[2][3] This award giving is controlled and maintained by Cabinet of Bangladesh government.[4] In 1981, for the first time, Mohammad Akram Khan was posthumously awarded "Independent Award In Journalism".[5] For remembering the martyrs of Bangladesh liberation war 1971, "Independence Day Award" is being given from the year 1977 in 8 different sections. These sections were: social service, literature, art, science and technology, rural development, medical, population control. But after that, new four sections were added. The new sections were: independence and liberation, education, public administration and research. The people or institution who is awarded the prize gets a 18 Karat 50gm gold medal, one replica, 3 lakhs taka and one certificate. In 2018, Shaikh Shiraz has got the Independent Award In Journalism for his great journalism over agriculture.
