The India national futsal team represents India in international futsal competitions and is controlled by the AIFF, the governing body for football in India. So far the team has not participated in any competition. The team is affiliated to FIFA and AFC.
History[edit]
The AIFF has planned to start a domestic Futsal Competition in 2019 expected to be played in 2020 but due to Covid-19 the competition could not take place. Finally in 2021 AIFF has organized inaugural Futsal Championship, Delhi FC crowned winner of the tournament. The competition has built the base for formation of National Futsal Team which will represent India in international competitions.
On December 5, 2022, AIFF announced that it will be forming a National Futsal Team which will participate in AFC Futsal Asian Cup Qualifiers in October, 2023.[1] "Futsal will play a very important role in the development of the game in India, and I am sure that this Committee will take proactive measures to help grow the sport across the country," said Dr. Prabhakaran, AIFF General Secretary.[2]
