India proper

India proper also called Hindustan proper[1] are terms usually used in reference to the Northern Indian subcontinent especially the Indo-Gangetic Plains.

India proper was used to describe the regions of Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat, Malwa, Rajputana, Delhi, Agra, Oudh, Bihar and Bengal.[2]

During the period of the British Indian Empire, it was used to for 'India' without the province of Burma, province of Aden and British Ceylon.[3]
