Indian Abacus is an abacus-based skill development program headquartered in Chennai, which was established in 2012, founded and invented by Mr. N Basheer Ahamed.[1][2] The first Indian Abacus Coaching Centre was opened in Anna Nagar, Chennai.

Indian Abacus signed an agreement with CAMS Institute,[3] Kuwait for GCC countries in 2018 to impart abacus education. The Indian Abacus teaching is in both Arabic and English according to the students’ preference in the GCC countries.[1]

Indian Abacus was also listed as one of the Top 50 IIGP innovations in 2016.[4]

Program

The program helps develop many skills for children aged 6 to 13 years old,[5] including listening, writing, focusing, imagination, and pictorial memory. The program consists of 8 levels; after completing 3 levels, students can perform mental calculations in a few seconds.[3]

Students also gain self-confidence, are motivated to be creative, overcome fear of mathematics, and find learning faster and more enjoyable by converting numbers into color pictures.[1]

The program aims to empower children’s brain skills by visualizing pictures (sliders/colors)[2] and stronger images to strengthen concentration and minimize distraction.[6] The children trained will sharpen their mental arithmetic skills and also acquire better memory, speed, and accuracy.[7]

Event

Indian Abacus conducts a National Level Abacus Mental Arithmetic Competition every year. On July 7, 2018, Indian Abacus conducted the 2nd National Level Competition[8] at Chennai Trade Centre.

In 2019, the 3rd National Level Competition was held on July 14, 2019, at the Chennai Trade Centre. Around 4,000 students[9] from Tamil Nadu and other states participated.
