Indian Ports Association is an statutory and autonomous body registered under societies Registration Act and constituted in 1966 to foster growth and development of major Ports which are under Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), Government of India.
History and Objective
Indian Ports Association is formed in 1966[2] for controlling the operation of 12 major ports[3][4]. It works under supervison of Ministry of Shipping and formed with the objective of undertaking research related to planning and Organization[5],fixing wages of staff working in the 12 ports[6] and make efforts on promoting technical and economical situations relating to ports.[7][8][9][10] The organisation also undertakes creating information resource to act as decision making tool and creation of solution based approach for Port Management[11][12][13]. The role includes promoting work related study efficiently, create strategy for management accounting [14] and other top Management tools resulting in increase of productivity and effciency in ports[15][16]. The organisation also acts as Integration of national and international organisations forming part of port and harbour organisations, port management allied activities and bridge the gap between Ministry of Shipping,ports, and other agencies related to Government[17][18]. One of the main objective of organisation is to promote Uniformity and standardise the functions in port[19][20]
Mr. A Janardhana Rao is the current president of Indian Ports Association[21]

- In 2021, Indian Ports Association collaborated with The International Liquid Terminals Association (ILTA) helping exchange best practices on management and handling of liquid commodities and also resulting in increased operational efficiency[22]
