InsideRisk: Shadows of Medellin is a full-length participatory experience incorporating film, multimedia and live moderation, directed by Edouard Getaz and Andrei Severny. [1] [2] Through a series of sessions embedded in the course of the story, participants deal with the core issues involved in hostage negotiations and are asked to reflect on the qualities of leadership required in a crisis situation. Audience members make challenging decisions and compare their choices to those made in the true story. The experience reveals the risk tolerance and highlights the importance of trusting your own moral compass in a lawless situation.[3]
Inside Risk: Shadows of Medellin is part of the International Institute for Management Development’s (IMD) High Performance Leadership program (HPL). [4] IMD’s HPL program is ranked No. 1 in “Top Open Programs Worldwide” by The Financial Times.[5]
Synopsis[edit]
In 1988, J.P. Mottu, a Swiss executive, finds himself in charge of negotiating the release of his employee, Isabelle Kayne, kidnapped by a revolutionary group in Colombia. After tense negotiations, he reaches an agreement with the kidnappers. But when the delivery of the ransom disastrously fails, all trust is shattered. J.P. must act quickly – take bigger and bolder steps, and go deeper inside risk to rescue the hostage.[6]
