Institut is an online Non Fungible Token (NFT) marketplace and gallery for digital art built on the Ethereum blockchain.[1][2][3]
History and development[edit]
Institut was established in 2021 by Joe Kennedy and Jonny Burt, the founders of the contemporary art gallery Unit London, with the aim of bridging the space between the traditional art world and emerging digital communities.[4]
In September 2021, Institut’s launch exhibition NFTism; No Fear in Trying, curated by the art world commentator Kenny Schachter, took place at The Stables in Covent Garden. NFTism featured work from close to 100 contemporary artists from around the world, including Krista Kim, IX Shells, Casey Reas, Jake Chapman, Philip Colbert, Marco Brambilla, and Sarah Meyohas.[5][6]
The Institut brand also incorporates Institut Editions, a separate online marketplace dedicated to limited edition artworks and collectibles.
