Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) is an organization that helps to make buildings more resistant to hurricane damage and creates a disaster safety plan for homeowners and businesses via their online service (DisasterSafety.org) as part of their goal to reduce property loss.[1]
The mission of the organization is to conduct objective, scientific research to identify and promote effective actions that strengthen homes, businesses, and communities against natural disasters and other causes of loss. The vision is to reduce financial losses, as well as community disruptions, that result from natural and man-made disasters.[1]
Members of IBHS are insurers and reinsurers that conduct business in the United States or reinsure risks located in the United States. Affiliate membership is open to brokers, managing general agents and independent agents.[1]
The Institute is located in Tampa, Florida and Richburg, South Carolina. [1]
