Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes (ISMAT) is a private institution of higher education headquartered in Portimão, Algarve region, Portugal. It belongs to Grupo Lusófona, a company headquartered in Lisbon which owns the Universidade Lusófona. The teaching institution was established in 2004 and is named after Manuel Teixeira Gomes, a Portuguese politician, diplomat and writer from Portimão who served as President of Portugal between 1923 and 1925. As of 2021, ISMAT awards degrees in fields such as architecture,[1] data science,[2] computer engineering,[3] law,[4] psychology[5] and sports science.[6] Besides research and teaching endeavors, the institution dynamizes the city's society through workshops and expositions it organizes.[7] Among its teaching staff, ISMAT has counted with some notable individualities of the Algarve such as Cândida Ventura and Carlos Lopez Cano Vieira.[8] The chief nutritionist of Portimonense SC's main professional football team, Joana Cruz, is also a teacher of ISMAT.[9] ISMAT is one of 50 Portuguese higher education institutions which are accepting candidate students through the Brazilian Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio.[10] ISMAT researchers have collaborated on several research projects and research groups of Portugal, including those linked to the largest Portuguese university, the University of Lisbon.[11]
