Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center
The Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center (ITIC), also known as Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center in honor of Meir Amit, is an Israeli-based research group with ties to the Israel Defense Forces and support from the American Jewish Congress.[1] The organisation is part of the Israel Intelligence Heritage and Commemoration Center (IICC).
Establishment and organization[edit]
The Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center (ITIC) was established in 2002.[2] It is directed by Colonel (Ret.) Reuven Erlich,[2] a former IDF intelligence officer.[3][4][5]
The organization has close ties with Israel's military leadership and maintains an office at the Israeli Defense Ministry.[6]
Several former members of the Israeli intelligence community (Mossad, Military Intelligence, the Shin Bet and Nativ) have criticized the "symbiotic" relationship between the center and Israeli military intelligence and the center's establishment, arguing that the connection of military intelligence with a propaganda body would be detrimental to "objective" and "ideologically unbiased" analysis.[3] Steven Erlanger wrote in The New York Times that a spokesman for the center had acknowledged that it had received some Israeli government financing.[7]
Activities[edit]
The center's research staff, some of whom are former Military Intelligence officers, compile weekly reports that are published online at their website.[8]
