The International Arena Football League is a professional indoor football league founded in 2018 by Austin Wild owner Kevin Clay. The league features eight teams based in the United States and Mexico and began play in March 2019.[1][2]

History[edit]

The league was formed by the ownership group of the Austin Wild led by founder and head coach Kevin Clay after playing as travel-only affiliate member in the American Arena League (AAL) in 2018 with non-league home games against local semiprofessional teams. Following the instability in the AAL and having all its teams in the eastern United States, the Wild left the AAL and formed the International Arena Football League (IAFL). The new league initially had eight teams, six based in the state of Texas and two in Mexico (Tampico Lagartos and Mexico City Mexicah),[3][4] but some either never came to fruition or dropped out of the league. Like most other indoor football leagues, the IAFL does not use rebound nets and other specific arena football rules used by the Arena Football League.[5][6] [7][8]
