The International Conference on Applied Psychology ICAP 2014 will take place from 22 to 24 October 2014 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Sri Lanka. This conference is introduced by the Colombo Institute of Research & Psychology (CIRP),[1] a pioneer in psychology education in Sri Lanka. The chief guest to the opening ceremony of ICAP 2014 is Hon. S. B. Dissanayake, the Minister of Higher Education of Sri Lanka[2] of Sri Lanka.
The keynote speaker of the 1st international Conference on Applied Psychology is Professor Graham Turpin,[3] Professor of Psychology, University of Sheffield[4] UK. His research mainly focuses on experimental psychology, understanding and treatment of psychological disorders.
This is a diverse multinational event where international academic researchers and professionals gather to share their expertise knowledge in the field of psychology.
Conference theme[edit]
“Psychology in Diverse Contexts – Research and Implications” The theme proposes the effects of psychology in various settings and also it will support and elaborate the significance of research. The ICAP 2014 stretches the existing research paradigm to encourage the practice of psychology in diverse contexts.
Aims[edit]
Giving significance to various aspects of psychology and research in Sri Lanka; poster, paper, and panel discussion sessions will be held giving the participants a broad insight into the field of psychology. The 1st international Conference on Applied Psychology investigates how cultural, social, and psychological resources mediate, moderate, and directly influence the mental and physical health effects of contextual experiences. This is a major event in the South Asia with a mission to disseminate knowledge of psychology and behavioral sciences through professionals across the globe.
The mission of the conference is to disseminate knowledge of psychology and behavioral sciences through professionals across the globe by inspiring creativity, innovation and boldness in research. The vision is to create knowledge through research for the benefit of mankind through enhancement of quality in every aspect of life.
The attendees have an opportunity to teach and learn from each other the latest research findings and their clinical and policy implications. Conference participants will initiate and maintain collaborations among colleagues across the globe, investors and possible employers during this three day conference, paving the way to popularizing psychology[5] in a Sri Lankan context. Participants will also get the benefit of socializing with psychology enthusiasts from different nations.
Research papers belonging to various topics will be presented during the three days of the conference. Research papers will be presented with accordance to various themes in psychology such as mental health and well being, business & organizational psychology, child and adolescent development, sports and health psychology, prejudice and social unrest, criminal and forensic psychology, terrorism, war and peace, community psychology, reconciliation and rehabilitation, cross cultural psychology, education and training and social psychology.
The inaugural conference will also establish a professional body for applied psychology that will unite the psychological practitioners and researchers of Sri Lanka.

- South-Asia Journal of Psychology
The journal[6] will consist of the best papers presented during the conference. This is the first ever psychology journal published in the South Asian region.
