International Human Rights Council[1] (IHRC) is an international non-governmental organization,[2] headquartered in Mumbai, that conducts research and advocacy on human rights. IHRC[3] works on advocacy of people, awareness campaigns, is involved in government activity watch, policy makers and human rights abusers to denounce abuse and respect human rights, and the organization focuses on refugees, children, migrants and political prisoners, women, domestic violence, and all types of human rights violations.
Formation
IHRC was founded by Dr. Sunny Shah, at a time when in India people often seek support from political parties or influential personalities to cope with their day-to-day lives, and these influences are often used as support in danger or threat by other individuals or groups. While discussing their own backing and support with friends, Dr. Sunny Shah realized he lacked such an influencer or supporter. At that moment, he conceived of creating a group,[4] where no influencer would be needed and the organization itself would provide backing for those common people who lack influence or support. This is how he founded International Human Rights Council[5] (IHRC) in 2010.
Struggle
Dr. Sunny Shah[6] struggled a lot to run the organization[7], to make an impact. Initially, he was not successful and the organization was not well-known. He faced many inquiries from the Police, Home Ministry, Governmental & Semi Governmental departments, but he persevered. The growing number of members was a significant contribution to running operations smoothly, and the expansion of the organization was a second victory. Many times, members faced ignorance, but he encouraged them and never feared corresponding with the administration. Today, the organization is not only working in India, but has expanded to the United States, Africa, Hong Kong, UAE, etc.
