The International Ice Swimming Association (IISA) is a sport association regulating swimming in icy waters. It has published rules for the sport.
Water Temperature [Icy Waters][edit]
IISA defines Ice Water as water temperature of 5.0 °C (41.0 °F) or lower
Swimming Attire[edit]
- 1. A pair of standard swimming costume
- 2. A pair of standard swimming goggles
- 3. One silicon cap
Swimming Distances[edit]
IISA has three different swim distances:
- 1. The Ice Mile - This is an individual swim challenge. The swimmer must complete a 1 British Mile [1609m] according to IISA rules.
- 2. The ICE KM - This is a competition distances. IISA holds events in many countries around the world where conditions allows for Ice Swimming. Records are recorded and published and a World Championship is held every second year.
- 3. Qualifying Distances - Are any distances shorter than 1000m. These distances allows for competition and qualifying swimmers to participate in an ICE KM races and for acclimation, training and fun purposes.
Vision[edit]
IISA's long term dream and vision is to be included in the Winter Olympic Games as a Swimming Sport

History[edit]
IISA was founded in July 2009 by Ram Barkai following his Guinness World Records record swim in antarctica and his swim in Lake Zurich with Andrew Chin in January 2009.[citation needed]
