Ionel Bandrabur (22 April 1922 – 12 January 2016) was a Romanian writer, poet and philosopher from Panciu, Vrancea.

Biography[edit]

Bandrabur made his literary debut in 1939 in George Călinescu's magazine, Jurnalul literar, under the pseudonym "Ilariu Spulber". After graduating from high school in Focșani in 1941, Bandrabur enrolled at the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature from Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca. He later relocated to Sibiu, Transylvania, where he earned a degree in the philosophy of culture under Lucian Blaga's supervision.[1] He served as an independent journalist for the Tribuna nouă in Cluj between 1945 and 1948.

He made his come back in literature in 1971 with the novel Hell's fountain, supported by Marin Preda, who was then the director of the Cartea Românească Publishing House.
