Raul Tovar is a Mexican fashion photographer and director based in New York City recognized for his polished approach to fashion and the female body.[1]
Early life[edit]
Raul was born in Monterrey, Mexico, his mother worked as a psychologist and his father was an architect who worked at a bank. From an early age, Tovar was attracted to fashion inspired by seeing his parents dressing for work every day.
In 2011 Raul enrolled at School of Visual Arts in New York City where he started his career by assisting legendary photographers David LaChapelle and Ruven Afanador.[2]
Work[edit]
His editorial work can be seen in Vogue México & Latin America[3], Vogue Brasil[4], L’Officiel, Harper’s Bazaar[5], Issue[6] and People[7]. He has photographed personalities such as Kendall Jenner[8], Rosalía[9], Maluma[10], Thalía[11] and worked with top models Christy Turlington[12], Irina Shayk[13], Anne V[14] and Cindy Bruna[15]. His commercial clients include the brands Philosophy[16], Neiman Marcus[17], Chanel[18], Longchamp[19], Christian Louboutin, LaQuan Smith[20] and Uniqlo.
In 2021, Raul photographed Latin pop singer and actress Thalia styled in her original vintage looks[21] recreating in detail her iconic "Love" album images from 1992.[22]
Entrepreneurship[edit]
Raul Tovar is also the Co-Founder & Creative Director of WindowsWear; a retail & visual merchandising database and community, founded in 2012 and headquartered in New York City used by fashion brands around the world.[23]
Personal life[edit]
Raul lives and works in New York City but travels for commissioned work worldwide.
