Iqra Nadeem (Urdu: اقراء ندیم) (born 26 December 1991) is a Pakistani Christian, author, and activist. She has written a book Christian Muslim Dialogue And Pakistan's Blasphemy Law. She has been active in Pakistan since 2008, working to build support for secular humanism, freedom of religion, and equal rights for minorities.[1][2]
Early life
Nadeem was born on 26 December 1991 in Lahore, Pakistan, to a Christian family. She completed her high school and continued her further studies. She received her intermediate degree in English literature, psychology, and computer science from Apwa College Lahore in 2008. Later, she obtained her BA in literature and media studies from Kinnaird College Lahore in 2012.[2]
She has written a book on the critical issue of the misuse of blasphemy laws in Pakistan. Her book mainly contains the history of blasphemy and urges dialogue between the majority and minority. The book also highlights the misuse of blasphemy laws.[3]
Career
She started her career staging plays, writing short stories, and poems. She also directed many plays, which depict the sufferings of innocent humans in Pakistan who are oppressed for their faith. In 2010, she joined the Christian Labour Movement, as its aims and objects impressed her, for their sincerity with the Christian community in Pakistan as well as their courage and faithfulness, though it is very dangerous to do such activities in Pakistan which demand the Christian's rights.[2]
She became a vice president of the Christian Labour Movement and fulfilled it by working devotedly for the rights of Christians through demonstrations, speeches, street theaters, and stage acts in different universities and colleges. She has written a book for peace, love, and harmony among Christians and Muslims of Pakistan.[2]
Some religious figures have demanded a ban of her book in Pakistan.[4]
