Iran Press
Iran Press, is an Iranian international news agency which provides real-time visual news content.[1] It is the first "visual" international news agency of Iran and West Asia.[2]
Background and organization
It began its experimental operation on September 23, 2017.[3] Abbas Mohammadnejad was appointed as its first director.[3][4][5] Later, on April 16, 2019, it officially began operations at the IRIB international conference center[6], with the director-general of IRIB in attendance.[3] The IRIB head stated that Iran Press aims to operate with minimal resources.[7] Mohsen Ghomi, the deputy of the international affairs office of the Supreme Leader, also attended the ceremony.[8]
In November 2020, the director of Iran Press appointed Ali Karami as "Manager of Journalists' Affairs" and Marzieh Zaeri Irani as "Manager of Modern Media".[9]
Domain and Operation
Iran Press provides the latest news in a visual format, live.[2] Reports from journalists in 30 countries around the world are provided to its audience.[2]
Iran Press offers its productions to domestic outlets and foreign customers.[7] It covers politics, culture, economics, and other significant areas.[10] Peyman Jebeli, the deputy of IRIB's international affairs department, stated that Iran Press aims to provide accurate portrayals of reality in Iran, regional countries, and independent countries, a perspective not always reflected by other media globally.[2]
The agency also utilizes a 24-hour satellite feed for live visual content for its international audience.[11] This live visual content and news is translated into English and Arabic upon receipt.[11] It broadcasts on Eutelsat satellite and also provides a 24-hour voice over IP service.[1]
In the appointment order of Abbas Mohammadnejad, the director, four missions were highlighted: 1) serving as a reference news agency for the Islamic world and regional countries, countering Islamophobia and Iranophobia globally; 2) opposing the monopoly of visual news production by other agencies; 3) facilitating dialogue through the accurate and unbiased reporting of the resistance, revolution, and religious movements; and 4) expanding the dissemination of news and visual content across all cyberspace platforms.[12][13]
Website and Social media
The Iran Press website provides news and analysis in three languages: English, French, Arabic, and Persian.[1][14] The Arabic website launched in the summer of 2019.[15] The French website, the fourth language option, was introduced on February 17, 2021.[14][16] French website content is shared on the news agency's French-language Twitter and Facebook accounts.[17]
Iran Press maintains active social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Telegram, providing up-to-date news and content in English.[11] The Twitter account has separate pages for Arabic, French, and Spanish.[11] Iran Press is also present on Iranian social media platforms such as Aparat and Soroush.[11]
The agency's YouTube page has been blocked at least twice.[11] Also, in February 2020, Instagram removed the Iran Press page, despite the page administrators' careful approach to content.[18] The Instagram page focused specifically on Iranian tourism.[18]
Other activities
