Iran University Press
Iran University Press (Persian: مرکز نشر دانشگاهی) is a major academic publisher in Iran, affiliated with the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology (Iran). Established in 1980, it publishes academic and research works for higher education institutions in Iran.
History
Iran University Press is one of the most important academic publishers in Iran. It was established in 1980 under the initial title Committee for the Translation, Compilation, and Editing of University Textbooks and operated under the supervision of a Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution.[1]
According to an early post-revolutionary report cited in Tehran Times (January 25–26, 1982), the newly formed Headquarter of Cultural Revolution consisted of three main units: the Education Planning Unit, the University Jihad, and the Iran University Press, which was established to provide university textbooks covering subjects from the sciences to ideological studies.[2]
Organization and Structure
Since 1983, the Center has officially operated as a publishing institution affiliated with the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, establishing its position in Iran’s academic and scientific community.
Role in Higher Education and Research
Over the past four decades, Iran University Press has been one of the most active publishing institutions in the country, playing a prominent role in the publication and provision of academic and research resources, and holding a distinguished position among university publishers in Iran.
Notable People
The management of Iran University Press has been held by several prominent figures, including Nasrollah Pourjavady, Farid Moore, Mohammad Mahmoudi Hashemi, Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, Bahman Hajipour, Hossein Mohammadi Doostdar, Hossein Ebrahimabadi, and Hassan Soodmand Afshar.
As the founding director of Iran University Press, Nasrollah Pourjavady supervised the publication of about 1,200 academic books and 11 periodicals in Persian, English, French, and German during his 24 years of service until the spring of 2004.[3]
The current president of Iran University Press is Dr. Amirmasoud Shahramnia.[4]
