Irene Andersen (born September 9, 1966) is a Swedish professional bodybuilder. She is one of the biggest female bodybuilders in the world.[4]

Early life and education[edit]

Irene Andersen was born on 1966 in Denmark. She moved to Sweden when she was two years old. Her hometown is Malmö, Sweden. She was always physically strong and as a young girl she used to wrestle boys winning over them. She trained Thai boxing for many years. She attended Malmö Latin School.[2][5][6][4]

Bodybuilding career[edit]

Amateur[edit]

Irene has always been weight training and people told her she should compete but it wasn’t until she was 36 she started competing. At the 2004 Lucia Classic, her won 1st place and archived her IFBB pro card. She then started to compete in United States.[4]

Professional[edit]

She attended her first IFBB pro competition, the 2006 IFBB Atlantic City Pro, where she placed 18th place. On August 15, 2015, Wings of Strength announced Irene Andersen received a special invite for the IFBB 2015 IFBB Wings of Strength Rising Phoenix World Championships. This was Irene Andersen's first Wings of Strength Rising Phoenix World Championships qualification. At the 2015 IFBB IFBB Wings of Strength Rising Phoenix World Championships, she placed 14th place.[7][8]

Irene is Jewish and the mother of three. She currently lives in Gothenburg, Sweden. She has opened a gym and a successful hotel. When she is in Sweden she often seen as a freak and people question whether she’s a woman or a man but when she visits United States she’s congratulated on her great physique and her hard work.[6][4]
