An Irish goodbye is a slang term with its origins in the Irish-American neighborhoods of NYC and Boston. It refers to the practice of consciously yet inconspicuously leaving a gathering (usually such gathering being among friends) without formally saying saying farewell. The Irish goodbye allows for an expedient exit without spending time on elongated farewells etc.
