Iron Golems are a fictional species from the sandbox video game Minecraft. Iron Golems can be created by placing 4 iron blocks in a T shape and adding a jack-o'-lantern in the top middle,[1] however, they can also spawn in villages that are generated along with the Minecraft world.[2][3] Iron Golems main purpose is to attack creatures it sees as a threat to its creator or village,[4][5] however, they have also been used by players to farm iron.[6] Iron Golems also appear in Minecraft Dungeons[7][8][9] and has its own set in the Lego Minecraft line of toys.[10]

Development[edit]

Iron Golems were made available for the Bedrock Edition version of Minecraft on September 9, 2015.[11]

Impact[edit]

In early 2020, Rochester Institute of Technology's 2020 class held their graduation ceremony in Minecraft. In the ceremony, the school's president was represented by an Iron Golem.[12]
