Irta'ash - A Hope of Life (ارتعاش) is a health sector social venture established at IBA AMAN Center for Entrepreneurial Development Main Campus Karachi on 22 July 2017. It is incorporated under ‘The Societies Registration Act, 1860 [XXI of 1860] by the Government of Sindh and operates as Irta’ash Foundation. Its operations are run by its Executive Committee, an apex policy-making body that seeks advice from its Advisory Council for better administrative, strategic, and financial decisions.
Earlier, it started its journey by focusing only on screening leukemia in children aged 1 to 14 in rural areas, who are considered to be in the initial stages of this deadly disease, and referring them to charitable tertiary healthcare hospital for timely treatment to avoid complications in later stages.
Now, it has included screening for other hematological disorders such as aplastic anemia and thalassemia in children, and diabetes in adults.
Services
Laboratory Tests
Laboratory tests play a significant role in identifying and treating any disease. Irta’ash sponsors such basic lab tests, important in diagnosing various hematological disorders including leukemia, for patients who cannot afford them because they belong to underprivileged families.
Counselling Services
Early diagnosis is important for early treatment. Due to unawareness, many children in rural areas do not reach tertiary hospitals on time, causing irreparable damage to their health. Therefore, counselling is important to motivate them for early treatment.
Assistance in Shifting Patients
Irta’ash assists its screened patients in shifting to relevant tertiary healthcare hospitals for proper and timely treatment, if needed. As Irta’ash does not sponsor any treatment, it helps needy patients by forwarding their applications for financial help to potential donors.
Public Awareness Events
Irta’ash organizes and participates in national & international conferences, seminars, and workshops on various health-related issues, especially public awareness events spreading the importance of early detection in cancer treatment and other hematological disorders.
Diabetes & Endocrine Centre
It provides diabetes and endocrinological consultancy to outpatients, including OPD services for the general public.
