Israel F-16 fighter jet was crashed in Golan Heights province north of Israel, after was crossed Syria border and attacked Iranian target in Syria.[1][2][3] This incident has been remarked as the first successful attack to IDF fighter jet since 1982.[4] An initial investigation was showing that the fighter jet crash was caused by the explosion of an anti-aircraft missile, which known in Israel as a Sufa.[4] The IDF spokesperson said, “Even if it was just hit by fragments, that’s still because of the missile”.[4] After pilots found that the plane was crashing, rejected it.[4][5] One of them was seriously wounded and the other one lightly.[4][5] It is the second time that Israel had been losted an aircraft in the abrod mission.[6] First one happened in 2006 when an Israeli helicopter was shot down over Lebanon war by a Hezbollah rocket.[6]

Incident[edit]

Israel claimed that an Iranian drone has entered Israeli territory from Jordan 4:25 (a.m).[4][7] The drone had intercepted, and the F-16 dispatched to hit the site where the drone had launched from.[7] Drone or UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) shoted down by an Apache helicopter in city of Beit Shean.[4][6] In a further response, the IDF decided to target The UAV control center deep inside Syrian territory.[4][6] Syrian anti-aircraft fire hited the F-16 while the plane was coming back from the mission.[4][7] It's two crew members ejected the plane and were taken to the hospital.[4][6][5]

After this incident, for the first time, Israeli official had admitted that an Israeli plane carried out an attack inside Syria territory.[1] Israel had carried out many attacks inside Syria but they never accepted any responsibility before.[1]

According to IDF spokesperson Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus, the F-16 hit during the mission.[4][6] The plane finally had crashed into the Jezreel Valley field in the north of Israel.[4] One of the pilots took severely injuries, while the second one wounded lightly.[4][5] The pilot who injured seriously conditions were improving throughout the day, but he remained unconscious.[4][5]

Dr. Rafi Beyar, the head of Haifa’s Rambam Medical Center, said the pilot conditions were stable.[4][5] He was suffering injuries to his chest and abdomen.[4][5] Also Dr.Beyar said the pilot was unconscious and connected to a respirator so required blood transfusions.[4][5] Dr.Beyar said the pilot who wounded lightly while abandoning the aircraft, released from the hospital that day.[4][5]

Later, President Reuven Rivlin spoke with the second pilot who wounded lightly, according to his spokesperson.[4][5]

Aftermath[edit]

Tom Bateman, the BBC's Middle East correspondent says, Israeli attack to Syria and neighboring countries are not unusual things but the loss of an Israeli fighter jet marks a serious escalation.[6]

Interfax news agency reported, Putin told Netanyahu in the phone call that Israel would avoid any steps that lead the region to a new confrontation.[2]

Jonathan Conricus, Israeli military spokesman said, Iran was responsible for this incident and IDF would have prepared for further action.[3]

Syrian military official said on Syrian state TV, Syrian air defenses hit more than one Israeli plane and called it "new Israeli aggression."[3] Later, Syria state TV said Syrian air defenses had responded to new Israeli raids near the Damascus.[3]

A Pentagon spokesman said the USA fully supported Israel’s right to defend itself.[2]

A U.N. spokesman said U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was closely watching all military escalation throughout Syria and invites all sides to exercise restraint.[2]

Brig. Gen. Tomer Bar, the Israeli Air Force’s second-in-command said, the Israeli planes would face a variety of Syrian anti-aircraft weapons. These anti-aircraft weapons contained at least four different types of Russian-made air defense systems, specifically the SA-5, SA-17, SA-6, and SA-3.[4]
