Issam El-Youssoufi (Arabic: عصام اليوسفي) is a Moroccan playwright, translator, and dramaturge. He obtained a doctorate in theater studies from the University of Paris in 1994. He is currently the director of the Higher Institute of Dramatic Art and Cultural Revitalization in Rabat,[1] [2] and he supervises several playwriting workshops. He participated in many seminars and meetings on theater,[3] [4] and also participates as a jury member in the sessions of the Sharjah Theater Days Forum organized annually by the UAE Department of Culture.[5] [6]

His works and Writings[edit]

In 2011, Issam Al-Youssoufi wrote a book entitled “Cinema and Theatre”, and has a number of plays, including:

  • Travel (Arabic: safar): issued in 2007.
  • El-Assas: issued in 2009.
  • Alcohol Tears (Arabic: dumue bialkuhul): Released in 2012.
  • The Deposed (Arabic: almakhlue): Issued in 2014.
  • Saliha: issued in 2015.
  • Signature (Arabic: tawqie): Issued in 2016.[7]
  • Division (Arabic: alqisma): issued in 2017.[8]
  • Gog Fajouj (Arabic: jwj fjwj): issued in 2018.
  • Marriage (Arabic: alzawaj): Released in 2018.

Issam Al-Yousifi translated and quoted the works of many playwrights such as Bernard-Marie Koltès, Chedid, and Shezcal. As a dramaturge, he also participated in a number of theatrical works, including:

  • Alma’s scales (Arabic: mizan alma)(2014)
  • Blasmia (Arabic: bila sumiya)(2016)
  • Badadh (2019)

Issam Al-Yousifi held many playwriting workshops locally and internationally, which produced a number of playwrights and many theatrical works written under his supervision, including:

  • Theatrical Scripts: Published in 2017, a book containing five selected theatrical scripts by young playwrights.
