Iulia Jaso (born Iulia Zanoschi) and Delia Wookey (born Delia Zanoschi), born on October 25, 1988, are Romanian twin sisters known for their contributions in mountaineering, business and finance. They are notable for their summiting records as a pair of twins.

Early life and education[edit]

Iulia and Delia were born and raised in Iași, Romania, to parents Adrian and Gabriela Zanoschi, both high school math teachers.[1][2] The sisters grew up in a family with traditional views on women and had no formal training or exposure to climbing and mountaineering.[3]

They attended the National College and completed the Romanian Baccalaureate.[4][5][6] Later, they received bachelor's degrees in business from the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies and Sorbonne University in 2010.[7] Subsequently, they obtained a master's degree in finance from HEC Paris in 2011.[7][8]

In 2016, the sisters pursued post-graduate studies in the United States,[2] with Iulia attending the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and Delia studying at Harvard Business School, both obtaining MBAs.[9][10][11][7]

Mountaineering[edit]

Iulia and Delia began their mountaineering journey with the ascent of Kilimanjaro in Africa in 2017.[12][13][14][15] They then pursued the Seven Summits challenge, scaling the highest peaks on each continent.[13][16][17][18] Subsequently, they surpassed the previous record held by Satyarup Siddhanta for the youngest climbers to complete both the Seven Summits and the Seven Volcanic Summits.[19][20][21]

In May 2021, they became the first European twins and the youngest Romanian women to summit Mount Everest.[1][14][22][23][24][25][26][27]

In January 2022, the sisters summited Vinson Massif and became the first Romanian women to complete the Seven Summits.[20][14][17][18][28]

In May 2022, they completed both the Seven Summits and Seven Volcanic Summits with the climb of Mount Damavand.[18][29][30][31]
