History[edit]

The village of Izvor is a central settlement in the Dark, an ancient name of the beautiful Radomir region, repeatedly burned during the Byzantine and Ottoman rule. For a long time this area has sunk into darkness and complete silence. At the beginning of the 14th century, during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom, the relations between Serbia and Bulgaria deteriorated sharply. Tsar Mikhail Shishman exiled his wife Ana Neda, sister of Serbian King Stefan Decanski, and a senseless war broke out between them. Shishman himself died in it. Part of the Darkness was conquered by the war ends with the signing of a peace treaty on 02.08.1330 in the fortress of Izvor, which became a border fortress between Bulgaria and Serbia. The village of Izvor is mentioned in a Turkish register from 1479. Around 1860 a kilin school was founded. In 1955 the village of Tarnovets (noted in Turkish documents from 1576, such as Tarnilofcha, Tarnilovets) and the village of Kandzhulitsa, now Alexander Dimitrov station, were reunited in 1957. Territorially, the village also includes the villa zone "Izvor" , Pirinitsa neighborhood and Hladni Klisuri neighborhood. Until 1971 the village was the center of a settlement system.

Religions[edit]

The entire population is made up of Orthodox Christians. In the village there is a monastery called "St. St. Peter and Paul ”and is located 2 km above the village at the foot of the northern slopes of Konyavska Mountain.

A brief history of the monastery "St. St. Peter and Paul ”with the old name St. Spirit:

When the monastery was built, how many inhabitants it had and when it was destroyed, nothing is known. The excavations show that there were large buildings with spacious yards and many properties, that all this was seized and assimilated by a Turk and turned into a homestead. Until 1876 there were ruins of this monastery, only the eastern part of the temple (St. Altar); it seemed undestroyed - the other buildings around it were destroyed and devastated - it is unknown when - by the Turks. Contemporaries from the Turkish rule say that the fugitive forbade the worshipers to visit this shrine, desecrated by the unfaithful Agarian.

Slabs were found in the monastery, which were destroyed. But later people glued them and they were in Old Bulgarian. But they translated them into Bulgarian and now they are in the monastery.

A stone slab with an inscription broken in two is kept in the monastery. The inscription states that the monastery was rebuilt in honor of 10 years of the Russo-Turkish war of liberation by a resident of the village of Tarnovets (now a neighborhood in the village).
