Education and Degrees[edit]

János D. Pintér is a Hungarian-Canadian applied mathematician. He was born in Budapest. He received an M.Sc. in applied mathematics with specialization in operations research from Eötvös Loránd University. He earned a Ph.D. in stochastic optimization at Moscow State University. He also holds a D.Sc. in mathematics from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

Research and Teaching: Summary[edit]

János D. Pintér is best known for his research in nonlinear optimization, specifically including global optimization, algorithms, software development, and a broad range of operations research applications. In 2016, he joined the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Lehigh University where he teaches a range of topics from operations research and statistics. Previously, he worked and taught for longer periods of time in Canada, Hungary, Indonesia, Netherlands, Russia, and Turkey; and presented lectures in about 40 countries of the world. His LGO global optimization software is linked to several prominent software platforms, and it has been in use by academic researchers and business organizations around the world.

Publications[edit]

János D. Pintér is the author of the monograph Global Optimization in Action. He also wrote a university textbook on stochastic optimization (published in Hungarian), as well as a tutorial and an electronic book on global optimization. He is the editor / co-editor of books on global optimization, modeling and optimization in space engineering, and optimized packings: please see links to these books at the External Links section. He is author / co-author of more than 200 scientific and technical publications.

Recognitions and Service[edit]

János D. Pintér received research awards, fellowships, research grants and visiting grants in Australia, Canada, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, United Kingdom, United States, and elsewhere. In 2000, he received the INFORMS Computing Society Prize for the monograph mentioned above. He served for a number of years as a volunteer society officer of INFORMS (Optimization Society), and EURO (EUROPT).
