In 2010 at the age of 13, Jackson faced tabloid scrutiny after he purchased s stun gun online and that he allegedly chased his nephews with it, which the family said is not true. Jaafar said that he purchased it as a surprise gift to his dad. Jaafar said the box came "and I tested it on a piece of paper - then I put it back in the box that it came with and put it in the drawer then the security came and took it."[3]

In 2019 he released his first single and music video with the song 'Got Me Singing'.[5] Jackson planned to release his first album titled 'Famous' in 2020z , along with his second single titled 'Confused'. But the album was cancelled for undisclosed reason, while the song was released and later withdrawned from all streaming services.[6][7]
On January 30, 2023, Jaafar Jackson was set to portray Jackson.[8][9] Saying "I’m humbled and honored to bring my Uncle Michael’s story to life. To all the fans all over the world, I’ll see you soon."[10]
