Jack Hart (boxing)
Jack Hart Born Moses Solomon (1900–1978),[1] was a British professional middleweight boxer who became one of the Englands most famous referees.[2]
Boxing career[edit]
Hart began his career in 1920. He fought 16 times, winning just 5,[2] although he faced consistently strong opposition including Matt Wells, Gipsy Daniels and German Champion Kurt Prenzel.
Professional boxing referee[edit]
Hart began his career as a professional referee in 1926. During his career as a referee he shared the ring with many greats such as Ted Kid Lewis, Primo Carnera, Dick Corbett, Randolph Turpin, Jack Kid Berg, Archie Moore and Gene Fullmer to name a few.[3]
Harts last fight after a refereeing career spanning nearly four decades and including dozens of British title fights and four world title fights was a bout between Henry Cooper and Dick Wipperman at the Royal Albert Hall.
Hart refereed fights internationally not only throughout Europe but also in Ghana and Nigeria, officiating the WBA and WBC World Featherweight title fight between Sugar Ramos and Floyd Robertson in Accra and the WBC and WBA World middleweight title fight between Gene Fullmer and Dick Tiger in Ibadan.
