Jack Orswell is an American politician from the state of California. He is a member of the Republican Party and he was the GOP nominee in the November 2016 election for the United States House of Representatives in California's 27th congressional district. He was also the Republican candidate for California's 27th congressional district in 2012 and 2014 but lost to Judy Chu.[1]
Early life and career[edit]
Orswell was born in Pasadena, California in 1949. He attended Pasadena High School, Pasadena City College, and the University of Southern California graduating from the latter in 1971 with a degree in Business administration. Following graduation he worked for an accounting firm until in 1973, he became a special agent for the FBI. He retired from the FBI in 1988 and started his own company in 1990 that conducts environmental assessments for companies. From 1993 to 2013 he was also a reserve officer for the Arcadia Police Department.[2] In 2012 Orswell defeated Robert Duran, the other Republican candidate, to come in second in the top two primary but eventually lost to Judy Chu in the 2012 general election.[3]
Policy positions[edit]
- Health care
Orswell supports the removal of parts of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act but supports the protections for patients with pre-existing conditions. Orswell supports Tort reform and allowing health insurance providers to compete across states.[4]
- Immigration
Orswell supports increasing border security and also forming a coalition of members of congress from the border states of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas in order to determine what type of legal status to give undocumented immigrants currently living in the United States.[5]
- San Gabriel Mountains
Orswell supports improvements to the mountain campgrounds and trails in the San Gabriel mountains which are also in the 27th district but expressed support for discussion of the issue before designation as a national monument.[6]

Personal life[edit]
Orswell and his wife, Janet, have three children and five grandchildren.[7]
