Jai Culley (born 24 February 2003) is an Australian rules footballer who plays for the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL).
Early career[edit]
After suffering the fate of all Victorians in 2020 with the cancellation of the 2020 season, Culley spent his time in the gym and working on his fitness. In 2021 he played nine games for the Dandenong Stingrays where he averaged 11 disposals and a goal. Not being draft in 2021 he had a vigorous offseason with the Stingray's Strength and Conditioning coach. As a overage player in 2022 he was rated the best in the Underage competition. He dominated a pre mid-season draft game between Colgate Young Guns v Vic Metro.[1]
AFL career[edit]
Culley was the first selection in the 2022 mid-season rookie draft. He made his debut in round 18, 2022 against Hawthorn on the MCG. He played four senior games in his first season, and then backed that up with his first pre-season by impressing his training coaches.[2] He earned an AFL Rising Star nominee in round 6 of the 2023 season.[3] In his ninth game he injured his knee and was out for the season.[4] [5]
