Jaimee Lupton (born June 1992) is a New Zealand entrepreneur and businesswoman. She is the co-founder of affordable beauty brand MONDAY Haircare, which she founded with her partner Nick Mowbray. Lupton was named Mumbrella’s Under-30 Achiever of the Year for 2021.[1]
Early Life[edit]
Lupton grew up with her parents and two sisters in Kumeū[2], in New Zealand’s North Island and was educated at Epsom Girls' Grammar School and the Auckland University of Technology[3]. In 2015 Lupton moved to Sydney, Australia and spent five years working in public relations for luxury brands such as Celine, Veuve Clicquot and Land Rover. ″I think I was always destined to be an entrepreneur,” Lupton has said.
MONDAY Haircare[edit]
When Lupton returned to Auckland in 2019, she set out to create a disruptive beauty brand[4] that would help to, “democratise haircare, by bringing people a premium product that didn’t cost more just for the sake of it.” She settled on MONDAY, a hair care brand that would be of premium quality and with values such as being cruelty-free and recyclable, but available affordably[5] and with a wide distribution strategy.
The brand launched in February of 2020 on the cusp of the pandemic in Australia and New Zealand, with Coles and Foodstuffs, the countries’ largest retailers respectively, causing a frenzy—selling out in many stores and being called “liquid gold[6]” by the press. The brand reported it sold six months’ worth of stock in just four weeks. MONDAY became instantly recognisable by its pink recyclable bottles and strong aesthetic.
MONDAY Haircare’s shampoos and conditioners don’t contain SLS or parabens, and instead include naturals such as Coconut Oil, Ginger Extract, Rice Protein, Provitamin B5, Shea Butter and Vitamin E. The brand has won more than 10 beauty industry awards, including ‘Best New Haircare Brand’ in the InStyle 2022 Best Beauty Buy Awards and various best shampoo and conditioner awards from the likes of Glamour and Cosmopolitan.
MONDAY Haircare is now available in more than 25 countries throughout the Americas, Europe, United Kingdom and Asia with at least 60 of the world’s biggest retailers including Walmart, Amazon, Costco, Kroger, Boots, Target, CVS and Tesco. The brand has sold 15 million bottles, and its TikTok content has over 10 million likes, the most of any haircare brand on the platform.
Personal[edit]
Lupton is engaged to ZURU founder and entrepreneur Nick Mowbray. In 2019 the pair purchased an apartment[7] in Auckland’s historic Endeans Building.
