Jake Clifford (born 02 January 1998) is an Australian rugby league footballer who plays for the North Queensland Cowboys in the NRL. He plays as a half-back.

Clifford was born in Cairns, Queensland, Australia.

He played his junior football for the Tully Tigers...[1] before linking up with the Northern Pride RLFC Under 18's playing group[2]. From 2016-2017, Clifford played for the North Queensland Cowboys NYC team. In 2017, Clifford re-signed with the Northern Pride RLFC and was offered a developmental contract with the Cowboys[3]. On the 27th September 2017, Clifford was awarded as the 2017 Holden Cup Player of the Year, the last year that the award will ever be given in its current format[4]

In 2018 he re-signed with the North Queensland Cowboys until the end of the 2020 season[5]

Playing career[edit]

Jake played off the bench in the preseason exhibition game for the Cowboys against Wests Tigers scoring his first try[6] in 2018.

After multiple injuries to reserve playmakers in the North Queensland Cowboys roster[7], Jake has been named in the reserves list multiple times[8][9] but has yet to see a game in regular season.

When the 2018 Queensland Residents rugby league team was named, Clifford was chosen as 18th Man but did not see any game time[10].

Clifford was named at Halfback for the Queensland Under 20's Division of the State of Origin where he proceeded to score two tries and have two more try involvements[11], earning him Man-of-the-match honours in the first ever Queensland u20's series win.

Jake got his debut game with the North Queensland Cowboys in Round 19, 2018 against the St. George Illawara Dragons on the 21 of July 2018.[12]
