Jake Dudman (born 22 August 1997) is an English actor, director and YouTuber from Surrey who was first discovered for his Matt Smith impression in 2014. He is known for his ‘Singing Impressions’, which have amassed over 2.5 million views, and for his recent film “Save The Rhino Vietnam”.

Dudman has collaborated with BBC WorldWide to produce content for Doctor Who: The Fan Show,[1] BBC Classmates,[2] BBC America’s ‘The Doctor’s Finest’, a Behind the Scenes Documentary for Doctor Who Series 10,[3] and is perhaps best associated with the Doctor Who franchise.

Documentary

"Save The Rhino Vietnam" was a T-shirt campaign[4] launched by Dudman, actor Paul Blackthorne and footballer Aaron Ramsey, aiming to raise awareness of the Rhino poaching crisis. It is widely believed that at the current rate of killing, rhinos will be globally extinct in ten years.

The campaign had a social media outreach of over 100 million, with support from the likes of Chris Hemsworth, Mesut Ozil, Matt Smith, Stephen Amell, John Barrowman, Alex Kingston, Karen Gillan and Aamir Khan, to name a few, and raised over $20,000.[5]

In May 2016, Jake and Paul journeyed to Vietnam with the charity Save The Rhino International[6] in the hope of understanding why rhino horn has become such a fashion in east Asian cultures, and how we can prevent rhinos from becoming extinct.

The film, with the tagline “Journey to the edge of extinction”, follows Dudman and Blackthorne on their quest for answers. Using hidden cameras, they went undercover to expose ‘Nhi Khe’ village for its ivory and rhino horn market, which was shut down when the footage was reviewed by the Vietnamese Government.

In an interview with Huffington Post, Dudman stated he hoped the film would “educate people and encourage them to take action,” emphasising how he isn’t just referring to the rhino poaching: “The important thing with issues like this is to keep talking about them. It’s important to keep the momentum up.” [7]

And of the documentary’s title, “Save the Rhino Vietnam,” he said, “It’s more than a name; it’s a plea. It reflects Paul and I using our voices to speak up about what we’re passionate about, and that’s the message we want people to take away from this: If you’re passionate about something, speak up!”

YouTube

In May 2014, Dudman launched his self-titled YouTube channel. Overnight his first video “Matt Smith Impression” went viral, being featured in the UK RadioTimes,[8] Digital Spy,[9] Buzzfeed[10] and several regional newspapers.

The RadioTimes raved in an article, “prepare for chills up the spine as you experience young impressionist Jake ‘Dunsbridge’…”,[8] whilst a journalist at The Nerdist wrote “Isn’t the impersonation amazing? I’m floored by how he not only mimics Smith’s voice but also the inflection and pauses. It’s so over the top good that it’s almost like he’s lip-syncing.”[11] The attention led Dudman’s video to be one of the top trending videos in the UK that week.

Since then, Dudman’s work has featured multiple times in top YouTube Magazine TenEighty Magazine[12] and has amassed over 2.5 million views, with his most watched video “40 Impressions Sing Hamilton” flaunting over 550,000 hits.

In June 2016, Dudman announced he would be writing his comedy song “Viral” alongside musician Ben McGettigan. The single reached the iTunes comedy charts that month.
