Jake Olson (photographer)
Jake Olson is an American photographer and graphic artist from Blair, Nebraska.[1]
Early life[edit]
Olson was born in Oakland, Nebraska and raised in Tekamah, Nebraska. He moved to St. Johns, Michigan in 1990, where he graduated from St. John's high school in 1992. Later, he went to Colorado where he attended the Colorado Institute of Art.[2]
Career[edit]
Olson dropped out of Colorado Institute of Art in 2005 and started working in Denver selling high-end jewelry. In 2008, after the financial crisis, he lost his job. He moved back to Nebraska searching for a job, however he was unsuccessful.[3] In early 2011, he checked himself into a rehabilitation center in O’Neill after battling alcohol addiction for 25 years.[4]
He left the rehabilitation center after a month. Upon returning home, he started using an old camera to take photographs that he shared on the Internet.[5] After posting a few photographs of children and animals on a Nebraskan road which went viral, he decided to become a photographer. In 2011, he enrolled in the Art Institute of Pittsburgh to study photography.[6] However, after studying for three semesters, he dropped out to focus on client work.[7][8]
In 2012, he started Jake Olson Studios and became a full-time portrait artist.[9][10]
Olson's photographs have been featured on National Geographic, Vogue Magazine UK, Digital SLR Photography Magazine, Forbes and Bloomberg.[11] He was featured in the top 30 most influential photographers on the web by Huffington Post[12] and one of the 7 most successful social photographers on the web by Forbes.[13]
