James Bacon (political aide)
James Bacon is a college student and political aide who currently serves as the Director of Operations of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel.[1][2] He was appointed by John McEntee.[1] Before serving in the White House, Bacon served as a policy advisor in the United States Department of Transportation and as the Trump Administration's liaison to the Department of Housing and Urban Development.[1]
Bacon's role in the White House is primarily to vet presidential appointees and oversee employee paperwork.[3] In his role, Bacon directs the office's vetting of PAS positions, as well as the vetting of "thousands of lower-level appointees".[4] Bacon's appointment came as part of a broader purge of White House staff, spearheaded by McEntee, who are suspected of disloyalty to President Donald Trump.[4] According to Politico, Bacon will act as McEntee's "right-hand man" as the PPO continues its purge of the Trump Administration.[5]
Prior to his White House appointment, Bacon interned with the Trump Campaign and served on the post-election transition team.[6]
Bacon's grandmother claims that he worked as an intern for Democratic U.S. Representative Brad Sherman, though this employment was not mentioned on Bacon's White House disclosure report.[7][8] The same disclosure report indicated that Bacon had previously worked as a paralegal at a Falls Church, Virginia law firm, and as a basketball trainer, though his grandmother has disputed those claims.[7][8] The law firm whose name was mentioned on Bacon's disclosure report does not exist.[8]
Bacon is a senior at The George Washington University, where he is pursuing a bachelor's degree.[8] Bacon was raised in Los Angeles, California, where he attended Granada Hills Charter High School and played on the school's baseball team.[8]
