James Burn is a British Green Party politician and Leader of The Green Party Group on Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council. He is an elected Councillor for Chelmsley Wood ward,[1] winning his seat in 2014.

He was the Green Party candidate for Mayor of the West Midlands in the May 2017 West Midlands mayoral election. The 'Metro Mayor' heads the West Midlands Combined Authority, with powers covering education and skills, planning and housing, transport and health and social care.[2]

Political career[edit]

In 2009, Burn was a key part of the first Birmingham Living Wage campaign,[3] and since then has continued to call for Solihull Council to pay the living wage instead of giving big pay rises to directors.

Burn was elected as a city Councillor for Chelmsley Wood in May 2014. He is the leader of the Green group and Leader of the Opposition[4] on Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council.

In 2016 Burn was selected as the Green Party candidate for the Mayor of the West Midlands, but was defeated in the May 2017 mayoral election by Conservative candidate Andy Street.[5][6][7]
