James Daniel Marrs Ritchey (born 21 April 1989)[2] is a Canadian[3] influencer, actor[4], musician[5], director[1], cinematographer[6], television host[7], script writer[8], stand-up comedian[9], and vlogger[10] who is best known for hosting the television series Glorious North.[11]

Personal life[edit]

James has one younger sibling[12]. He graduated from Prince George Secondary School in 2007[13], and since then has studied New Media[14] at the University of Lethbridge[15], and English[16] at Athabasca University[17]. He is also an alumnus of the Justice Institute of British Columbia[18], and Careerstep[19]. Despite applying twice to the Canadian Armed Forces[20], he has never served[21].

Online[edit]

Online he is most well known for his application to season 5 of Big Brother Canada. While his application was declined[22], his vlog about applying received a great deal of attention[23], including over 220,000 views[24], making it his most watched YouTube video at the time.

He has deleted many of the videos from his YouTube channel[25]. In late 2016 he deleted most of the videos from his YouTube channel[26], notably including "57. Current Chart - Y2016M7D24"[27], the source of the Heartbroken Cowboy meme.[28] The Heartbroken Cowboy meme entry on Know Your Meme received over 125,000 views[29] within the first 9 months[30], and its template is available on most meme generators.[31]

Ritchey's Deviant profile[32] has received over 180,000 views[33], and his artwork "March Whiteout" notably received over 20,000 views in its first month on DeviantArt[34].

On 10 December 2018, Christin Löhner announced the Linux Counter project would end, citing lack of time and user interest[35]. In 2019 Ritchey launched Lius as a replacement.[36] By 2020 the site had 324,048 users.[11] In mid 2020 Ritchey announced Lius would be shutting down so that he could focus his time on other pursuits[37].
