James E. Will (1928 - September 10, 2016) was Professor of Systematic Theology at Gerrett Theological Seminary. From 1959 he was Professor of Philosophical Theology at Evangelical Theological Seminary in Naperville, Illinois, and after 1973 he wasProfessor of Systematic Theology at the newly incorporated Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary (1873-1973).[1] Retiring in 1998, he became emeritus professor there. He is the author of several books, [2] including A Christology of Peace, which tells how justice and peace can coexist throughout the life of Christ.

Life[edit]

James E. Will was born in Palastine in 1928. He grew up in Chicago, America. He became a pastor by the United Methodist Church. Will, then the youngest seminary student, was named "Seminarian Preacher of the Year" in 1951 as part of nationwide contest open to all theological schools in the U.S. and Canada.[3] Garrett-Evangelical President Lallene J. Rector evaluated Jimes E. Will to be a champion for justice in many forms and a leader at the seminary in teaching inter-faith courses for four decades. He worked in process theology and perspectives in philosophical and liberation theologies.[1] He opened the conception of God offers an integration of many cultures and beliefs to bring love and peace to a pluralistic and often divided world.[4] Will, 88, most recently of Northbrook, died in a car crash in Downers Grove on Sept. 10. Will has his ex-wife, the Rev. Hwa Young Chong, a pastor at the Glenview United Methodist Church; his seven children and his six grandchildren.

Will received a bachelor of arts degree with high honor from North Central College in 1949 and a bachelor of divinity degree from Evangelical Theological Seminary in 1952. He received his doctor of philosophy degree at Columbia University and Union Theological Seminary, New York, in 1962.
