Youn Chul-Ho (Hangul윤철호; born 1 April 1955) is a Presbyterian theologian of South Korea.[1] After teaching Systematic Theology and Hermeneutics for 30 years at Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary, he is emeritus professor from June 2020.[2] He wrote many books and articles. He received several awards for his contribution to the development of theology of Korea.[3] He is a director of the Future Theology Institute.[4]

Education and influence[edit]

He was born in Seoul, Korea in 1955. His father was an elder and his mother was Senior Deaconess. He suddenly decided to be a pastor with the experience of sickness in the army of Korea. He entered Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary in 1980 and finished M.Div. He received a Th.M. from Princeton Theological Seminary, and Ph.D. with the thesis “God's Relation to the World and Human Existence in the Theologies of Paul Tillich and John B. Cobb, Jr., (1990)" from Professor James E. Will at Northwestern University. He served as chairman of the Korean Systematic Theology Society,[5] and established the Future Theology Institute in 2019, and is director of it.[6] His concern and study has been on the Trinity, Christology, hermeneutics, philosophical theology, anthropology, public theology, and the dialogue between theology and science. He has contributed several articles to international journals and has published more than ten academic books.

Future Theology Institute[edit]

He founded the Future Theology Institute in 2019 to aim for the following theological idea and purposes. He opened several conferences with various themes.[12][13]

  1. Theology of the Kingdom of God oriented towards the realization of the gospel of the Kingdom of God in the Bible
  2. Convergence theology aiming for interdisciplinary research for communication with the world
  3. Ecumenical theology aiming at the unity and reconciliation of the Church
  4. Global theology aiming for the development of world theology through East-West exchanges
