James G. Abruzzo

James G. Abruzzo (born May 11, 1950) is an American recruitment consultant,[1] author,[2] and educator.[3] He is Executive Vice President, Managing Director, and Global Head of Nonprofit Practice at DHR International, an executive search firm based in New York.[4][5]

Early life and education[edit]

Abruzzo was born to Sam and Stella Abruzzo.[6]

He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Brooklyn College (1967–1973). In 1972, he enrolled in Queens College to pursue MS in Music Composition. Abruzzo earned a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Arts Management from Brooklyn College (1974–1976). In 1970, he attended Università di Bologna for a one-year Music program.[7][8]

Career[edit]

Abruzzo practices management and talent acquisition consultancy for nonprofit organizations,[9] incorporating labor tax policies,[10] compensation guiding principles,[11] transparent hiring assessment,[12] gender wage disparities,[13] and repercussions of donations, and tax exemptions procedure for nonprofits based business models.[14] He is the Founder and President of Abruzzo Associates LLC., a consultancy firm for nonprofit organizations, established in 2005.[8][15]

Since 2003, Abruzzo is associated with the Institute for Ethical Leadership at Rutgers Business School – Newark and New Brunswick (RBS) as Co-founder and Director.[16] He retired from the post of director in late 2017.[3] Abruzzo also worked on Rutgers’ Center for Nonprofit and Philanthropic Leadership.[17]

From 2009 till 2012, he was on the School of Economics faculty at the University of Bologna,[8][3][2] and was a graduate faculty member at Columbia University from 1985 till 1990.[7]

From 1990 till 2000, Abruzzo handled nonprofit searches at a New York-based management consulting company, A. T, Kearney.[18][8]
