TuringPoint Executive Search, or commonly referred as TurningPoint, is a private executive search firm based in Southern California, founded in 2007. It is a premier recruiting resource for Sales, Marketing, Operations and Executive Leadership professionals locally, nationally, and globally. At its inception, TurningPoint focused on finance recruiting. In 2010, the organization rebranded itself as a Sales, Marketing, and Leadership focused firm. In 2019, Data Bird Business Journal[1] named TurningPoint on their list of Best Companies for Women. In 2016 and 2017, the San Diego Business Journal named TurningPoint one of the 100 Fastest Growing Private Companies in San Diego.[2]

TurningPoint is a unique hybrid search firm that effectively supports companies of all sizes and structures. It is centered around a high touch, concierge-style approach to recruiting. Its team of recruiters offers more than 80 years of combined experience in recruiting, human resources, sales, marketing, training, and management.

Ken Schmitt founded TurningPoint Executive Search in 2007 after working in recruiting for 21 years. A San Diego native, Ken grew up in an entrepreneurial household with a father who was a Jack in the Box franchisee for 25 years, and a mother who left the accounting world to become a real estate agent.

In 1998 Ken began his career in recruiting working for a local boutique firm, a large regional firm, and one of the world’s largest Executive Search firms, Heidrick & Struggles. A decade later TurningPoint Executive Search was born, initially specializing in finance recruiting.

In 2010 TurningPoint altered its prior focus to Sales, Marketing, and Leadership recruiting. To that end, the Sales & Marketing Leadership Alliance (SMLA) was launched in 2011. With chapters in San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles and Austin, supporting over 120 members, the SMLA provides best in class speakers, peer-2-peer networking, and professional development to the region’s Sales & Marketing leaders.[4]

In 2016 and 2017, TurningPoint was ranked one of the Top 150 Fastest-Growing Private Companies in San Diego. CEO and Founder, Ken Schmitt, was acknowledged as one of San Diego’s Most Admired CEOs (SDBJ) in 2018. TurningPoint Executive Search Founder and CEO, Ken Schmitt, serves as an Executive Board Member of San Diego Sports Innovators (SDSI), and HR Café (formerly San Diego HR Roundtable), and is an Advisory Board member of the American Marketing Association (AMA)[6], San Diego chapter, and the American Association of Inside Sales Professionals (AAISP). Ken is an active participant in recruiting podcasts [7] , webinars [8], and speaking engagement. He earned his BSBA in Economics from the University of San Diego and is a former board member of USD’s School of Business Alumni Association and a Featured Torero. [9]

In 2016, founder Ken Schmitt authored LinkedIn Hiring Secrets for Sales & Marketing Leaders: The Winning Formula for Attracting High Performers, a detailed professional resource on how to use LinkedIn for job search and recruiting.[10]
